For weeks, my Nest video (five cameras) does not stream live nor does it play back. As usual, Google is charging $100 a month for a crap product with absolutely no customer support. I know this is a common problem; has anyone solved it on their own?

I'm just another Google Nest customer. Since you referred to the Chrome browser, are you referring to the home.nest.com website (where you can access history) or the beta/preview home.google.com website (where you can only livestream)? Or are you referring to the Google Nest app or the Google Home app?
Which Google Nest cameras do you have?
How are you paying $100/month for your Nest Aware subscription? We have the Nest Aware Plus subscription, which covers ALL of our cameras and doorbells for $120/year? If you go to Settings | Nest Aware in the Google Nest app or the Google Home app, what subscription do you have?

Yes, I'm over $100 a month. I can see live and replay on my nest app (iOS), but when I call up my cameras on the Chrome browser, I get a live snapshot, but it freezes, the wheel spins, and I cannot access replay. I tried to log in with Firefox and was sent back to log in page three times. I also tried Safari, was actually allowed to log in, but encountered same problem

And it works fine on the mobile app, just not on the desktop. Do you have a recommendation for another camera system? This is far too much for a subscription for a product that does not work nor is backed up by any customer support.

I'm guessing you have a 1st-gen Nest Aware subscription for 5 cameras at $100/mo or $1,00/yr for 30-day 24/7 video history; that's really pricey. The Nest Aware Plus subscription for ALL cameras and doorbells in the same Google Nest "home/structure" for 60-day event video history and 10-day 24/7 video history is $12/mo or $120/year.
I don't know why you cannot live stream or view history on the home.nest.com website. It works fine for us using Firefox, Chrome, and Safari.
I wonder whether Google Nest is having issues with browser access for 1st gen subscriptions. You could try Support at https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp
You could also try the "Contact us" link under "Nest Aware Premier Care" on the page below to "Get 24/7 access to Nest Aware Experts on the Nest Customer Care team. They’re available to answer questions, help you access features, and manage your subscription." At your price level, you should REALLY get premier care.
