Can not share nest protect

SeattleMW
Community Member

I have tried everything, but cannot get my nest smoke detectors into Google Home in order to share them. When I go to the Nest app, it says I must use Google Home, when I go to Google Home, it takes me back to the Nest app. This is the most frustrating thing ever I would love for my family members to have access to the nest protect

At this time Nest Protect is not compatible with the Google Home app. There is no word about when it might become compatible

Thank you. Any idea how to share Nest Protect with someone? I have other family members that would benefit from having access? When I try to add a family member it forced me to Google Home.

They need their own Google account and then you need to send them an invitation.

Thanks. I have invited them to my Google Home account and see them as a family member but the Nest protect are not in Google home. I am assuming the reason I can not get them to add to google home is that they are not compatible as you said above. I am trying to find any way to share nest protect with a family member without google home . Google home does not work.

They need to install the Nest App and sign in using their Google Account.

Same issue here. Google support does not seem to know how to resolve the issue. They tell me they don't see my Nest Protect devices but I can see then in my Nest App without issue. I don't see them in Google home. When I try to add them thru google home it tells me to use the nest app. Nest app tells me to add family members thru google home.

So I was finally able to get my family members to see (share) my nest protect from my second home. I set up my second home in google home first (my account). I then invited them thru google home since since google nest tells me to invite them thru google home. Your family member accepts the invite goes through that process. Once the family member accepts the invite from google home they then have to install the Nest app. After installing the NEST app they should see the shared protect. This process worked for us.

Hey folks,

SeattleMW, how’s it going? Have you tried the steps shared by ertlbanks? If so, how did it go? Let me know if you need more help.

Hi SeattleMW,

Thanks for getting back to us. Having your family members in your home structure is the first step. All they have to do is to download the Nest app and hit the Sign in with Google option then sign in to their own email address you used when you invited them. They have to go to the same home structure where your Nest Protect is added to control it. Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Emerson
