12-degree swings...at least

When I get up in the morning, I turn my heating from 69 to 72. Every day, I get really uncomfortably hot while the system runs. So I used a separate thermometer to check, and the room was actually getting as high as 79 degrees! The temperature immediately started coming down once the heat cut off. An our or two later, a thermometer in the room read 67. That makes sense - the room is uncomfortably cold most of the time. Throughout all of this, the Nest was still saying that my room was 72 degrees. What's going on? Why is the unit running until it's so hot, and waiting until it's so cold to turn back on? Why isn't the unit displaying the actual room temperature? I totally appreciate the importance of a maintenance band, and I'm not trying to control things down to the tenth of a degree or anything, but this seems really extreme. I'm so uncomfortable in my home.

I grabbed an example today. Heat set to 72, ran to 73 according to the display (which I would be fine with), but according to my thermometer it's 83. Sensor is also visible on the shelf to the left.

Hi @LT4,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I’m sorry to hear that you are having incorrect temperature readouts in your Nest Thermostat showing several degrees of difference; I’ll be more than glad to assist you.

Before we continue, I have some questions:

  • When did the issue start?
  • Where did you install your thermostat?
  • Have you checked the Wi-Fi signal strength?

I’ll be waiting for your reply.

Best regards,

Derick.
