I wish I had known the Nest thermostat would put efficiency before comfort and not give homeowners the ability to reverse that priority. I am constantly putting on a sweater and then taking it off - all day long - both winter and summer. My HVAC company, which I think does excellent work, only buys and installs Nest thermostats. So, when my old/existing thermostat failed, I thought the Nest thermostat would be fine. No, it is not. A swing of .5 degrees above or below the set temperature (1 degree total swing) would be a huge improvement. I haven’t figured out yet how/where to ask and/or identify whether or not Google has any plan to fix this issue. If not, I guess I will start looking for a different brand. What a huge waste of time and money.

Hello seeyabye216,
I'm sorry for the late response and thanks for reaching out.
The Nest Thermostat will wait to turn on your system until it gets to about 1 oF (0.5 oC) cooler than the temperature you’ve set. This is to prevent unnecessary wear on your system and help save energy. We appreciate users who are keen on sharing with us their thoughts. So please let our product team know about it through feedback, and let us know if you have more questions.
Regards,
Mark
