3rd Gen Nest Thermostat No Longer Charging even using USB

This really isn't a Wifi or Connectivity Issue except that it won't connect to the Wifi because it will no longer hold a charge.

  • This is the second dud 3rd Gen Nest thermostat I have purchased.
  • I have owned this thermostat for about a year.
  • It has worked for a year with no problems.
  • It went "offline" because of a low battery.
  • Now it won't charge even on the USB.
  • I have a "C" wire and it is properly connected. If it were not, it wouldn't have worked for a year. All the voltages are correct for the wires.
  • Nothing about the A/C unit or electrical wiring has changed.

I'm open to suggestions, but please do not tell me to charge it on the USB and replace it. I've tried that. It doesn't work. Thank you for any input you can provide.

  • Oh, and I found that I purchased this thermostat on 17 September 2023.
  • I just let it stay charging on the USB for more than 2 hours. The thermostat was blinking green when I removed it from the USB cable. The thermostat was very hot to touch.
  • As soon as I unplugged it, the screen asked to be attached to the base. On my way to do so, the light started flashing red and the screen said the thermostat needed to shut down.
