3rd gen heat link dead

Thermostatties

Hi,

Heat link appears to be dead. Getting h71 error on thermostat, have no lights on heat link. But checking mains voltage, there is still mains power to the device and when trying the mini usb connection diagnostic, the lights all come on. Any advice?

This means we have no hot water or heating. Assuming a new heat link is required, a quick bit of research says this is likely a common issue??

Same happened to mine. It's dead if no lights on it (it's a known fault that google don't want to talk about - lots of heat links failing after 18 month or so). Only solution is to replace it with a new one. Contact Nest Support - I did it via Twitter as it seemed the quickest way to get a response. I've now had a replacement fitted and it's working. But I am now seriously going back to a wired controller so I am not left without my heating control.

Hey @Thermostatties,

I'm sorry to hear about your issue, but I'd like to help you out. I'll have a few questions for you first:

What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
When was it installed?
Did the issue happen during installation or after installation? Was it installed by a Nest Pro or by a regular installer?
Does the boiler activate when calling for heat by pressing the Heat Link's button to activate Manual Mode?
Have you had any recent power cuts in your area? If yes, has the power been restored?
Have you recently had service or maintenance on your electrical, plumbing, or heating system?
Have you tried any troubleshooting steps before contacting us?

How many thermostats do you have?

Also, if you have not already, make sure to double check all breakers and switches to make sure nothing has tripped. Also check the boiler as it can have a separate isolation switch sometimes. Confirm the boiler has power, it should have a LED or display that turns on.

If it all looks good try and power cycle the Heat Link, if you're comfortable in doing so. Turn the power off to the Heat Link for a few minutes and then turn it back on. See if it has any reaction when you press the button on it after.
