4th gen Nest not syncing with Home app for initial setup

I recently purchased (2) Nest Learning Thermostats 3rd Gen, neither of which would communicate with Nest app...I called technical services, who wasted 45 minutes troubleshooting, only to tell me the thermostats are bad.....I returned them, and then learned the 4th Gen Nest only works with Google Home....so I bought a 4th Gen Nest, downloaded Home,  and it too will not talk to the Home app for the initial setup...yes bluetooth is on...it will not even work in manual mode....this is my last shot.....anyone know why the 4th Gen won't talk to the Home app?

The Google Nest Learning Thermostat 4th-Gen are not compatible with the Nest app. You must use the Google Home app as directed in the instructions provided with the thermostat.  I have I stalled countless numbers of these Gen-4 thermostats never once encountering a problem. Perhaps ypu should perform a factory reset and start the installation from the beginning again.

Thank you CoolingWizard...I appreciate your time.  The 4th Gen is not communicating with the Home app to set it up...the screen says to complete setup via the app....no options.  How do I factory reset without any menu items available?

On the Google Nest Learning Thermostat Gen-4, it kind of depends on where the software is stuck. Technically it is not configured so let us first try a restart. 
Press hold the display screen until it goes blank, you will see a very small amber dot at the bottom.  Now release the display and the thermostat will restart. Since it has not been fully configured, it will start the installation procedure from the beginning. Remember the installation instructions precisely.  
1. Install the Google Home App. 
2. Follow the instructions on the screen of the thermostat
