On occasion my AC shuts off then within a couple seconds it kicks back on. It coola without issues. Is this cycle done but the nest thermostat?

I'm not sure which thermostat I have, it's the older learning one I think.

Hi mohntr,

Thank you for posting in the community! I understand your AC unit is quickly turning on and off, and you're wondering if your Nest thermostat is the cause. I can certainly help you investigate this.

To help me get a clearer picture of what's happening, please answer these questions:

  • What is your specific thermostat model? The easiest way to find out is to gently pull the display off its base and check the back for a model name. It will likely say "Nest Learning Thermostat" or "Nest Thermostat E." Another way to find the device model is by checking the help article, How to tell which Nest thermostat you have.
  • How often does this scenario happen? Is it a consistent short cycle every time the AC runs, or does it happen intermittently and at random times?
  • What does your thermostat's screen show when this short cycling occurs? Does the screen change color, or does it display any messages?
  • Can you provide a picture of your wiring? If you can't, please list the wire colors and their corresponding terminal labels (e.g., 'Red wire on R,' 'White wire on W').
  • What type of HVAC system do you have? (e.g., heat pump, furnace, etc.)

Once I have this information, I can provide you with a more accurate assessment. I look forward to your reply.

Regards,

Humberto
