AC won't turn off when desired temperature is reached

akcollins

I set our Nest temperature at 74 degrees and sometimes our AC unit will continue to run even after 74 degrees is reached until I bump the temperature setting to 75 degrees.  The AC unit then turns off and I turn it back to 74 degrees and it stays off.  Other times it will say the temperature is 76 degrees in the house and it's set at 74 degrees and the AC unit will not kick on. I then have to turn the air up to 75 or down to 73 so that it recognizes that it's 76 in the house and the AC unit should turn on

Hey there akcollins,

Welcome to the Nest Community Forums! I can imagine it's pretty strange that the AC isn't listening to your set temperature. I'd be happy to help you figure out what's going on with that, I'll just need to ask you a few questions:

  1. When did this issue start happening?
  2. Is this a new installation?
  3. Is the Nest Thermostat in direct sunlight? Are you using the Sunblock feature?
  4. Are you using any schedules on the thermostat?
  5. Are you using any Nest Temperature Sensors?

If you have any schedules on the thermostat, it will override the temperature setting. With the Nest Temperature Sensors, if you set one room to take priority, that would also affect the AC.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

We have had our Nest for about 2 years and it started to act up ~2-3 months ago.  It is not in direct sunlight and we do not use any sensors at this time and do not use any scheduling as I have been home full time for 11 weeks with our new baby.

It's like the Nest doesn't read its own temperature reader to know when to turn on and turn off the AC.

Hey akcollins,

I wanted to jump in, and see if I could be of any help. I found an article with some troubleshooting steps for strange cooling behavior. Please let me know if that helps resolve your issue, or if you are still running into the problem.

Best regards,

Jake
