All schedules are cleared Nest still changes temperatures.

I recently switched from heat to cool for spring. Every night at 10:30 both my upstairs and downstairs Nest thermostats set the temperature very low. 15 C downstairs 16.5 C upstairs. I am fairly sure those were the temps I had scheduled for 10:30 on heat side, to make sure it didn’t turn in the heat overnight. I have since deleted all auto schedule temperatures in both heat and cool mode. I tried setting scheduled temps in the cool side. I tried doing the reset schedule in both thermostats. This keeps happening. If I go to bed and forget to manually raise the temps, or if I am out, the AC will try and cool the house to 15C. It’s incredibly frustrating to be completely unable to stop this. What could possibly be telling Nest to set the thermostats to these stupid low temps?

Oh my god, I’m going to fess up to my stupidity in case someone happens upon this thread and it can save them some aggravation. I had a Google Home routine set to set those temperatures. I have no idea why I duplicated the auto schedule in the Google bedtime routine (which turns off the lights downstairs). But I clearly did it in the winter when I wanted to set those temps low. Thank you and apologies for the drama.

Hi Lexlimo,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Nest Thermostat. I see that you already tried some troubleshooting steps to resolve this. To isolate the issue, please review the Nest Energy History on your Nest App to see the reason why you're thermostat is changing the target temp. You could click on this link to learn more about this.

Thanks,

Edward

Thanks for the tip, I had been looking at that but now I see that if I tap the temperature it shows me who or what set it. Unfortunately these rogue temperature changes do not appear in the history. I’m looking at today's. I can see an entry for 19C at 10:15. This is the time and temp I scheduled. But the temp is not currently set to 19. It's set to 16 and there is no indication on the timeline of anything setting it to 16. And this happened every night. There are no 16s on any day. So it ignores my actual scheduled times and sets it’s own. And I’m sure the temps it’s setting it to are from an old schedule that has long since been erased and we’re on the heat side anyway. Is the problem in the thermostat's memory? The fact that it happens to both thermostats makes me think it’s a problem with bad data in my nest account or something. Which would mean a factory reset may not fix it if it picks up the bad config from the cloud when I re=enable it.

I will say, it could be considered a bug that the Google Home routine changing the temp does not appear in the Nest History which would have saved me much confusion.

I have disabled auto schedule, reset the thermostat a and still my nest lower the temperature to lower than i have ever set it. IO am so tired of "smart devices". I followed the instructions on how to disable it but the nest persist to change the temp lower, inevitably costing more. saying it save money in my experience it an all out false hood. Why is it so difficult to to have it behave like a traditional thermostat? shouldn't that be the default behavior?

Hi folks,

@Lexlimo, glad to hear that you were able to find  what causes the change on your Nest. I understand that the history should've showed what it was being caused by a different app. We appreciate users who are keen on sharing with us their thoughts. We'll take this as feedback.

@Anonymous, I'm sorry to hear that you're also having this issue. Have you tried checking the Nest Energy History to check what's causing the change?

Thanks,

Edward
