Already installed Nest Learning, how to add to the app

Sgillette

I bought a home with the thermostat already installed and added to an account. I want to put it in the app and connect to my home. But how do you do this?  I have nothing to scan, can it be done?

Google Nest Support should really have a page on the Google Nest Help website with pointers for both outgoing and incoming homeowners and tenants.

This includes having the outgoing homeowner or tenant provide the incoming homeowner or tenant with the Setup Code and Serial Number for each Google Nest device that is remaining in the home (cameras, doorbells, thermostats, etc.), as well as having the outgoing homeowner or tenant remove each device from their Goggle Home app.

There should also be pointers on what the incoming homeowner or tenant needs to do before they move in. This includes obtaining the Setup Code and Serial Number for each Nest device from the outgoing homeowner or tenant, verifying that the outgoing homeowner or tenant has removed the Nest Devices from their Google Home app, and instructions for adding the Google Nest devices to their Google Home app.

@Sgillette

We don't have a Nest thermostat, but here are some things to think about:

The previous homeowner needs to remove the thermostat from their Google Home app if they haven't done so already, I don't know whether you need to do a factory reset or not; with Nest cameras and doorbells, a factory reset is needed, but I don't know if this applies with a thermostat, since it will probably make the thermostat non-functional until you get it reconfigured. You'll need to either scan the QR Code on the back of your Nest Thermostat display or enter the Setup Code on the back of the thermostat display (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10125150?hl=en#zippy=%2Cscan-the-qr-code), unless the previous homeowner has provided you with this. The setup process may ask you to verify the last 4 digits of the thermostat's serial number, which is also on the back of the thermostat display, unless the previous homeowner has provided you with this.

You really need some more expert guidance than I can provide as a Nest camera and doorbell customer.  Hence my suggestion that Google Nest Support should be providing guidance.

Hey folks,

Thanks for your answer and for your feedback, MplsCustomer. You're right — just like our Nest cameras, our Nest thermostat too must be reset in order to disassociate them from the accounts they're currently connected to before they can be set up to other Gmail accounts.

@Sgillette, please reset the account connection settings of the Nest thermostat that came with the house by following the step here: https://bit.ly/3riP5Dp Once done, you can now proceed on adding it to your own account. Should you need a guide, you can check this out: https://bit.ly/3a6peIu
