App says one temp, device another

Hi,

Bit of an odd one but also quite straight forward (at least to explain).

We've noticed recently that while the temperature is set to 15°C on our Nest app, and for the most time this is what shows on the thermostat itself, every now and then the thermostat will jump up to a higher temp, resulting in the heating coming on unexpectedly.

Today, for example, I walked into an empty and very warm house as it jumped up to 21°, starting the heating when no one was in the house. I checked the app and it still said 15°, so I had to manually change it on the device.

It doesn't do it consistently - it's always random times and random temps (but always higher than what we have it set to most of the time).

We thought someone may be knocking the device or moving it accidently, but the house has been completely empty all day.

Thanks!

I had the nest thermostat and last this past winter it kept saying it was over 100°f in my house so my heater wouldn't kick on. Apparently something inside goes bad and that's what caused it. I ended up getting the learning one.

So maybe yours is starting to go bad? Hope not.

Hi Aaronbaker,

Thanks for posting and sorry to hear about this situation of your Nest Thermostat raising the temperature without your request. No worries, help is here! I'd like to ask a few questions about this:

  1. What Nest Thermostat model do you own?
  2. Have you tried a Factory Reset?

If you have a Nest Learning Thermostat, the reason why it's changing the temperature might be you have the Auto-Schedule on. Here you have the steps to Disable learning for the temperature schedule.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Axel.
