I'm interested in the away and home mode. My current system can be turned off via a holiday day setting both water and heat. I understand that nest doesnt turn off heat as such but moves to an ECO mode - if I turn ECO off, does it impact away, Holiday mode?
Hot water - I understand the hot water will still continue as per schedule even when you are on holiday mode and then after 48hrs, does turn off but turns itself on every couple of days for an hour - is this correct
Sorry for the questions but I'm deciding between nest, tado and hive
Thanks

Hi Wayne6,
Thanks for posting, and I'm sorry for the late reply.
Are you located in North America or Europe? When you set your Nest Thermostat to Away mode, it adjusts the temperature to a specific setpoint to save energy while you're not at home. You can customize the temperature settings for Away mode based on your preferences. Away mode does not completely turn off your heating or cooling system; it simply reduces energy usage by adjusting the temperature. Eco mode, on the other hand, is an additional energy-saving feature available on Nest Thermostats. When enabled, eco mode allows the thermostat to automatically adjust the temperature to a more energy-efficient level when it detects that nobody is home. It goes beyond the temperature settings you specify for Away mode and can be optimized further to save energy. If you turn off Eco mode, it will not directly impact the functionality of Away mode or Holiday mode.
The hot water schedule during holiday mode may vary depending on your setup and settings. By default, the schedule is paused and may turn off after 48 hours to conserve energy. Nest Thermostats do not have direct control over hot water systems, but rely on existing controls. The behavior of the hot water turning on every couple of days for an hour after the initial 48-hour period could be due to the hot water system's specific configuration or programming.
Let us know if you have any other questions.
Best,
Zoe

Hi there! Just to add one more thing to what my colleague said, the hot water schedule will turn off after 48 hours of Away, but if you have the Bacteria Prevention mode on, it will activate if the domestic water hasn’t been heated for at least two consecutive hours in the last 48 hours.
Let us know if you have any other questions.
