Away mode on iPad and iPad persists

I have two nest thermostats. They both are working well. The problem is that on my iPhone and iPad, it shows one of the nests continually in the “Away” mode. Meanwhile, the thermostat, itself is heating or cooling, the way it should. Recently, I went to a fiber internet system. I had to set up a new username and password, etc. I entered the data in both thermostats and one of them is okay, the one with the problem has the correct data, but this “away” problem started with fiber connection. I’ve tried reset, restart, etc, but problem persists. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Same question.  I have home and away turned off.  Because it never worked right. I would come home and it ALWAYS said I was away.  So I turned it off

My question:  if home / away is turned OFF, why does it display home and away?  It doesn’t do anything since it’s turned off but what’s the point of an (always incorrect) designation if it’s off?

Hi everyone,

I’m sorry to hear you’re having issues with your Nest Thermostat's Home/Away assist feature. Let’s sort this out. Can you try the steps in this guide?

  1. Open the Nest app.
  2. Tap Settings Nest settings icon.
  3. Select Home/Away Assist.
  4. Tap What decides if you’re home.
  5. Select a Nest product, then tap the switch to enable or disable its participation in Home/Away Assist.

Let us know how that works.

Thanks,

Zoe

mine don’t work with the nest app.  They only seem to work with google home.

Hi @Just_A_Guy

I appreciate you checking the steps. I'd like to check this out for you. Can you help me what type  of Nest Thermostat do you have?

I'll look forward to your response.

Best,

Zoe

I do not use the nest app - since it told me to use the google home app.  The google home app always shows me as away - it NEVER updates to home and I have home and away TURNED OFF!

Using 2 of this thermostat -

Hi everyone,

I wanted to check and see if you managed to see the information I shared. Please let me know if you have any questions from here. I would be happy to assist and make sure you are good to go.

Best Regards,

Zoe

Hi Zoe - I have the system home away turned off now - it took SEVERAL iterations of on and off of the home / away setting to stop the system from turning on home and away despite home and away being off - I am NOT going to reactivate the system and have to deal with the system turning itself off when I want it on because it thinks I'm away.  It does NOT recognize the phone it is using to see who is home /away is  back home - it has NEVER worked properly.  I am NOT turning the system back on to trouble shoot something I am NOT going to use.

I live in the desert - the system generally comes on late May and stays on using the timings we set until late september - I do NOT worry about home and away-  We deal with that using timing set backs

Hi there,

I'm sorry for the delay. I know it's been a while now. I just want to ask if you already tried to perform a factory reset to your Nest Thermostat. If not yet, please do so and let us know if the issue will persist.

I appreciate your help, Zoe.

Best,

Jenelyn
