Back from holiday and Nest "learned" and schedule ruined

I spent years tweaking and fine tuning the Nest heating schedule to match our lifestyle. I did the enormous mistake to leave Learning Mode on.

I went a way for 10 days and put the Nest on Away Eco mode so it just keeps the pipes unfrozen throughout the week. After coming back, Nest thought that the Away Eco mode is my new preferred schedule and decided to relearn itself - basically adjusting down all temperatures as we were not using it all week.

Surely, this needs to be fixed!! Anyone else had this happening to them?

Hi groveyans,

Uh-oh! I understand that you're frustrated with the behavior of the Nest Thermostat's learning mode while you were away. The learning mode of the Nest Thermostat is designed to adapt to your schedule and preferences over time. However, it's possible for the learning mode to make adjustments that don't align with your preferences, especially if there are significant changes in your usage patterns. To prevent unwanted changes to your schedule, you have a few options:

  1. If you prefer to have more control over your thermostat's schedule, you can disable the Learning Mode. This allows you to manually set and adjust the temperature schedule according to your preferences without the Nest Ihermostat making automatic changes.
    • Go to Settings then look for Eco and select it.
    • Turn off both the Eco Temperature.
    • Click Done.
    • Look for Nest Sense and select it.
    • Select and tap Auto Schedule
    • Select "No" and "Off" then press the ring to select it.
    • Click Done.
    • Look for Reset and select it.
    • Select and tap Schedule.
    • Select Confirm Reset or Clear.
    • Turn the ring to reset schedule.
    • Click OK.
  2. Once you have set up your desired schedule, you can enable the Schedule Lock feature. This prevents any automatic adjustments or learning from occurring. It ensures that the thermostat will stick to the schedule you've set, regardless of any changes in your usage patterns.
  3. If you plan to be away for an extended period, it's a good idea to adjust your thermostat settings accordingly. Instead of relying on the learning mode or the Away Eco mode, manually set the desired temperature settings for the duration of your absence.
  4. If you do choose to use the learning mode, it's important to monitor its behavior and make adjustments as needed. If you notice unwanted changes or inconsistencies, you can manually override the schedule or make manual adjustments to ensure the thermostat aligns with your preferences.

Remember that the Nest Thermostat is designed to learn and adapt, but it may not always perfectly align with your preferences. It's important to find a balance between utilizing its learning capabilities and manually adjusting the settings to suit your lifestyle.

Let us know if that helps.

Best,

Zoe
