Blank display

The display on the base unit has stopped turning on. The system has worked well for six months, then the displayed current temperature became more and more erratic over a few days. The body of the unit behind the ring became warm then the display went blank. It will not respond to pressing, turning or re-powering. Alternative USB power plugs made no difference.

I purchased this in March this year through Ebay but they will not supply a replacement under the warranty. How can I restore a working system?

As additional information the first evidence of this fault occurred when it could not find any networks. My network is working perfectly.

Hello goodgoff,

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with your Nest Thermostat. It appears there might be a power-related concern, and it's unfortunate that the warranty process through eBay hasn't been helpful so far. Let's give it a try to bring it back to life!

Here are a few steps you can consider to troubleshoot and potentially restore your thermostat:

  1. Check the Power Source: Ensure that the thermostat is receiving power from your HVAC system and the breaker is turned on.
  2. Charge the thermostat display for an hour and wait until it turns on. Make sure to use a working USB cable or try a different power outlet.
  3. Inspect the wiring: If the thermostat is wired to your HVAC system, check the wiring for any loose connections or damage. Ensure that the wires are securely connected to both the thermostat and the HVAC system.
  4. After an hour of charging, put the thermostat display back on its base and see if it turns on. If so, search for any wiring report or message code that would indicate that it would not hold the charge.
  5. Gather the power readings in the Technical Info settings.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Mark
