Hi All,
I had my nest third generation thermostat fitted a couple of week back. We have a system boiler on a Y plan system.
Since having it installed I have have taken off all the auto learning functions as in happy to sort this myself.
However the time it takes to get to temperature is considerably longer than my last thermostat. i.e if the temperature is at 19 degrees and I want it to get to 21 degrees this can sometimes take 2 to 3 hours. Also the temperature on the actual boiler is going up and down during this drawn out process to heat the house. Is this normal
in that nest is taking into account the outside temperature or could this be a problem with my boiler or how the nest has been fitted?
I have also noticed that our three way valve stays warm if we turn the temperature down on the nest so it’s not calling for heat. However when I turn the heating to the off position on the app the valve cools down.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have a problem happening right now. Difference is, my Nest Learning stopped working on the heat side. Installed Nest Learning on 1 April. Ran heat through May, then AC and Heat into June until we went to straight AC for summer. Multizone heating system (forced hot water) with two Nest E's on other zones. Testing heating system from Nest Learning on 6 Oct. Taco box just kept clicking. You will see other posts about this across the web. Call heating company for PM b/c I assumed the problem was with boiler. First thing tech said when he arrived was "you have a Nest thermostat, correct?". He performed the same troubleshoot you did (W to Rh wire - triggered heat). Notified Google and then sent me new baseplate (arrived last night and installed - no fix. Same exact issues). Contacted them again this morning and just went through 2 hours of painful chat troubleshooting with totally useless reps (Madison and then Enzo). If you get them, stop the chat, pull the Nest out of your house and get another brand. I'm done with having a teenager in their basement ask me if my house is powered and calling it support/troubleshooting. Do yourself a favor - send it back for full refund. You will be stuck in an endless loop of being told to unplug your house from the grid. Google Nest just doesn't care.

Hi this issue is not resolved would it help if I sent you pictures of the wiring relating to the heat link and y plan?
thanks

If you are comfortable in taking a picture of the wiring on the Heat Link side it could help. Keep in mind that it is a high voltage device so if you are comfortable in checking and taking a picture of the wiring, do be careful.
The Y valve handles both heating and hot water. It is possible that the hot water side may be keeping it warm sometimes.
As for the time it takes to heat it. If it is a system boiler, without OpenTherm, the thermostat should not influence the time it takes to heat the location as it would operate as a On/Off switch only. So when heating is requested the boiler would activate and heat the water in the system to the set water temperature on it, this would be a setting on the boiler itself. The heating would stay on as long as it takes for the requested temperature to be reached at the location and then turn the system off.
