We just recently got an entire new AC and furnace installed. The first night we turned it on, everything worked well. The next morning, we noticed the temp of the house was way below what it was set at but didn't think much of it. Later that day, it seemed to stop working. We had the thermostat set at 72 and it was around 80 and climbing. We had the HVAC company come back out and they noticed the AC unit was frozen over. We turned everything off and thawed it out and they checked everything and said all the equipment looked fine.

We turned it back on and again, it worked for one night but was significantly colder than the set temperature this morning. And again, the pipes outside were all frozen over.

The equipment is all brand new and the contractors have confirmed that everything is working as expected in the system. The filter is brand new as well and we have moved all furniture away from the return vent. The only culprit we can think of seems to be that the next is not regulating temperature and is continuing to blow cold air all night and freezing the machine. Has anyone run into this issue?

Hey Lizzy,

Running into trouble with your new unit does not sound ideal, sorry this is the case. I would be happy to see if I can help out and ensure you are good to go. Do you mind me asking if you remember what you set your safety temps at? You can follow this article here, and it will provide you with steps on how to double-check and change that if need be.  Let me know if that helps.

I have the same issue and my safety temps are 45 and 95 and won’t let me adjust the min higher or max lower.  I have still run into my coils freezing even with the fan on.
