I bought the Nest Learning Thermostat believing I could go out of town for a week or so and set the thermostat to lower temperature while I'm gone, then just before I return home I could log on through Nest or Google app and resume a pre-set schedule or manually kick the temperature up higher.
Also, if I leave and forget to change settings on the device, can I log on through Nest or Google app and lower the temp for a week or so then just before returning home log on again and set it higher.
It appears I have to control everything "at the Thermostat", and not remotely. Is that correct?
Thanks!

David, I think I’ve got this figured out. I can manually switch to ECO either at the thermostat or on my phone and it will not return to the scheduled temperature unless or until I manually turn off ECO mode. <——- Please comment if you disagree with my statement.
thanks again for your help.

That's not the case. Once you add your thermostat to the Google Home or Nest app, you can easily control it even when you’re not at home.

David, thank you very much. I'll give that a try here soon and log back on if I run into difficulties.
Thanks again!
