Hello,
I want the thermostat in a room that's a bit far away from the boiler.
Is there a way to install without the T1/T2 cable from the base?
I see there's a USB (micro-b) port in the back of the thermostat. I was wondering if T1/T2 is just power supply and I could use the USB instead

Yes. The USB connector at the back can be supplied by a standard cable and 5V power charger type supply. At least 5V at 1 Amp. You will need to set the thermostat to use a wireless connection to the Heat Link. That is what I am doing at the moment before permanently deciding which room to place it in, which will probably be my hall way, replacing the old thermostat.

Thanks for reaching out to us here @Falci . I would be happy to try and assist.
Just like @Muckspreader said, you can use the micro USB port on the base of the thermostat to install it wireless. Now do keep in mind, since you mentioned it's a bit far away, that the wireless range is limited and can be impacted by sources of interference. You can have a look here at our installation guide for all the recommendations.
