Can I use the nest thermostat to report room temperature to google home without connecting to an AC?

I would like to use the thermostats if possible as standalone temperature reporting devices without controlling the AC.  Is that possible? I know it is excessive/wasteful but I want to do it if they can be configured as such.  (Reporting/sensing only)

I understand that thermostats can be confusing but I definitely wanted to stop by and see how I could help.
