Can a seperate 24v battery be used to supply power to Nest gen 3? I heat only for baseboards and currently use a 24v transformer plugged into a wall outlet. I'm trying to find out if I can just buy a battery that will supply enough power to run for a few months at a time. The thermostat is on a wall in front of a closet so I'd have an easy way to get to and charge the batter when needed. Just not sure of voltage, size and if it's possible!

Hi @Spg07,
Thanks for posting here in the community! I'd be happy to help with your concerns about using a separate 24V battery supply to power your Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen).
Using a separate battery to power your Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen) is not the recommended way to power it. In this situation, I recommend installing a common wire or Nest power connector to provide continuous power to your thermostat. Additionally, using a separate 24V battery could damage the internal battery of the Nest thermostat.
For your reference, here you can learn more about the common wire or C wire.
Let me know if you have more questions.
Best regards,
Jenniffer
