Can my newly installed AC run without the G wire, my heating does..

So we had a 4 wire system old style thermostat, when we replaced with the nest, we had to use one of the wires for C (Power). When we first installed nest we didn't have an AC, just heating, and we didn't use the G wire, that is used when just running the fan. When we turn on heating the fan would turn on.

Recently we installed an AC unit, but the install guys connected the Y, but also said the G wire needs to be connected as well.

Does it make sense that heating (W wire) turns on the fan without a G wire connection, but the AC requires the Y and the G ?

Hello nestfantorono,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry. I'd love to know more about this.

Could you provide us with the type of HVAC system you have? Also, please check your thermostat's Heat Type in the Equipment settings. If you have a furnace, make sure that it is set to Forced-air.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Mark
