Can’t Adjust Safety Temps in App

Catannabv
Community Member

I can’t set the safety temperatures on my Nest. The slider won’t allow me to take the heat safety temp above 45 degrees or below 95 degrees for cooling. I found a thread on this exact issue from 2022, but it showed no solution. I’m worried about my pipes freezing this coming winter and my wood floors warping in the summertime.

Hi Catannabv,

Yikes! I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing difficulties setting the safety temperatures on your Nest Thermostat. The limited range you're encountering for both the heat and cooling safety temperatures is indeed unusual, as it restricts your ability to set appropriate limits for your HVAC system. Let's see what's going on. A few questions:

  1. Are you located in North America or Europe?
  2. What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  3. Have your tried to update your thermostat's software? If not yet, check for available thermostat update here in the Update Nest products and apps guide.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Zoe

Thank you for getting back to me. I live in the United States. I have a Nest Learning that I got at Target on October 23rd. I checked for software updates, and I’m current.

Hi there,

Gotcha. Nest Learning Thermostat only has 95F to 105F (35-40.5C) or off temperature range for safety temperature in cooling. In this case, I recommend you set the Eco temperature instead to 76F to 90F (24.5-32C) just to prevent your pipes from freezing.

Let us know if that helps.

Thanks,

Zoe

I don't understand what you're instructing me to do. When I open Eco Temperatures on the App, I get a range like I do for the Safety Temperatures. I set the Eco Temperatures to 58 degrees and 80 degrees respectively. Doing that has not solved my issue with the temperature dropping below 55 degrees when it's cold at night (pipes freezing issue). I woke up one morning last week to my thermostat at 54 degrees. Since it hasn't worked on the heating front, I assume it also won't work on the cooling front (hardwood floors start to warp when temps go above 85 degrees). Colder temperatures are upon us; we need to get this issue fixed stat.

To clarify, when I say I set the Eco Temperatures to 58 and 80 degrees, I didn't just now do that. I did that last week.
