Can't add Temp Sensor to Google Home

Hi.

I have the Thermostat generation 4 and trying to add the square puck generation 1 temperature sensor.  I am having problems even adding the sensors and I keep getting this "Add a compatible thermostat" To setup this temperature sensor, you need a compatible thermostat that is paired to your account.   So, yes I have the generation 4 themostat working.  What is going on here?  I read the help article under MORE INFO and it goes to saying add the devices.

Updated Google Home on my iPhone and still exact same problem.

What am I missing?

Thanks,

Give these instructions a try.

How to set up and install the Nest Temperature Sensor in the Google Home app

@Patrick_Caezza I tried those instructions.  Please verify for me that Gen 1 temp sensors DO NOT work with Gen 4 Thermostats?  Thank you.

Well, as I thought.  I called Google Nest tech support and after doing the adding again and doing remote session.  She asked her supervisor and she was told Gen 1 temp sensors DONOT work with Gen 4 thermostat period.

I wish that info was easier to find doing Google search instead of wasting 2 days that Google Nest could have told me.

@SMunixguy

That is news to me as everything I have read says Gen 1 is compatible with the 4th Gen Learning Thermostat.

In the link I provided you it clearly says in a note the following.

Note: There are two generations of the Nest Temperature Sensor, but both are compatible with the Google Nest Thermostat E and Google Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen and 4th gen). Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) comes with a Nest Temperature Sensor (2nd gen), but older temperature sensors are compatible as well.

There is an exception to this which is as follows,

The Nest Temperature Sensor works with the following thermostats:

  • Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd and 4th gen)
  • Nest Thermostat E

For the following countries:

  • United States
  • Canada
  • Mexico

Important: As long as you purchased your thermostat from a retailer in one of the countries listed above, it should work with the sensor. Thermostats designed for use in other countries, however, aren’t currently compatible with the sensor. The app prevents you from adding the sensor to a thermostat designed for use in any other country.

I'm going to escalate this up the ladder and get their take on it.
