Can't connect Nest thermostat to Google Home app

I keep trying to link my Nest Learning thermostat to the household I have created in the Google Home app. In the app I go to "Set up Google Home" --> Choose a home --> Looking for Devices (it doesn't find my Nest) --> Set up a different device --> Nest Thermostat. Then I scan the QR code on my Nest (or enter the setup code, doesn't work either way), and it fails to find it. I've checked and both the Nest and my iPhone are on the same Wifi network. I've tried resetting the Nest, still doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?

I am having the exact same issue and it is driving me crazy because everything I've done is what is supposed to be done.

I am having the same issue. I was told that I could use google home app for cameras and other devices. Not true. Only cameras. Maybe a future feature.
