Can't setup through home app for Nest Thermostat. QR code scans error, 14 digit serial blank

  • I want to set schedules with my nest thermostat.  Nest app doesn't allow that.  Home app is the only instructions given by Google.  However, to setup with home you have the option to scan with QR code.  Oh great QR code scans with error.  So try the other option, enter the entry key SHSWX5 and then go to last four of serial screen.  Doesn't populate anything and worse doesn't tell you it's populating a list.  What do I do?  Seems to be an old unresolved issue.

Thanks for posting and sorry to hear about this situation with your Nest Thermostat. No worries, help is here! Please try the next steps to troubleshoot this issue:

 

  1. Uninstall the Nest or Home App from your phone and re-install it
  2. Create a new home structure in your Nest or Home App and try to add it there
  3. Factory Reset your Nest Thermostat. Here you have the steps to follow Restart or reset a Nest thermostat

 

Please try the steps above and let me know how that goes.
