Can you put a white W2 wire in *OB slot on Gen 1 thermostat? Google says yes, my bill says no

Many thanks to anyone who can help. Google's site says my new 1st Gen Nest (1.4) is  compatible with my 2-stage heat pump + aux coil system and that I can put the W2 wire in the *OB slot (there is no W2 on this model).

The heat is running nearly all the time and my electric bill is sky high, guessing because it runs stage 2/aux too much, even when temps are in the 50s. Any suggestions? UPDATE: As you can see below, the original wiring had the white wire in W2 and the brown wire in W--the opposite of what I'm seeing online. To match the original setup, which ran well, I put the white wire in *OB in Nest (per instructions to put W2 in *OB) and the brown wire in W like in the original. Should switch those wires on my Nest even though it would be different than the original setup?

Thanks so much to anyone for any help! (Maybe you can save the day with your expertise, @David_K or @Lance_L, or know someone in the community I could ask? 🙏😁)

Thanks very much,

@zoeuvre  and @RenzJ for the shoutouts in the other community members' posts that I responded to. Is there any chance you can help me with my issue here? Or point me to someone who can? I'm losing a lot of $ every day and won't be able to get an HVAC specialist in for weeks. Do you think I need to buy a new Nest? Google said Gen 1 is compatible with 2 stage heat. Is there a number I can call for a product refund? Thanks so much!

Hello equivokate,

Thanks for reaching out. I understand your frustration and concern about the compatibility and performance of your Nest Thermostat 2020. It's crucial to ensure the correct wiring for optimal functionality.

Firstly, it's unusual to suggest placing the W2 wire in the *OB slot, especially when there is no W2 designation on your model. However, to troubleshoot the excessive heating issue, it might be worth trying different configurations.

Given your update about the original wiring having the white wire in W2/Aux and the brown wire in W, and your Nest Thermostat setup following the original configuration, it might be worth it if you could share with us the actual photo of how you installed them on your Nest Thermostat. So we can have a visual of how we can reconfigure it.

I'll look forward to your response.

Best regards,
Mark
