Cannot deactivate smart "lesrning" settings

I have turned off all smart functions: home away assist, auto schedule, smart learning, etc. But my thermostat will still set random schedules on its own that are bizarre. We wake up one morning freezing cold to discover it decided to turn our heat down in the night. Then I have to manually delete the schedule it set for every day of the week. You have to delete every item one at a time too! I check my settings, and yep, still have Auto schedule DE-selected. So why does this thermostat not follow the settings? The thermostat is also hugely inconsistent. The house is set at 71 most of the time, but random days we will come back from being gone all day and the house is freezing, but the thermostats are showing regular temp. It honestly feels like it's using home away assist without telling me then lying to me about the temp. I don't enjoy being gaslighted by my thermostat... does anyone else feel this way? All I want is a thermostat I can control from my phone. Literally that's it! I don't care about your stupid other gimmicks that don't work!

I too have turned off all the features and yet the thing keeps changing the temp on me. Moreover it turns it up when I don't need it and down when we want it. The only thing that works is to disconnect it from the WiFi. Thats really crappy.

I have the same problem with the Nest that controls heating in a Church Hall. For several years it allowed us to easily change the schedule to respond to changes in bookings but it’s now gone rogue, reinstating periods when the hall is empty or just losing random settings. From saving us money it’s now costing us big time. I’ve tried resetting the auto-schedule (which has always been off) but after a day it’s back to its old tricks. I’ll try a full reset next but I’m losing confidence in it!

I am in Northern CA. Wondering if this problem is specific to a region or everywhere.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out and for being a step ahead of us. I'm sorry for the trouble this may have caused you. A few questions: were you able to try disabling those features directly on the Nest device? Also, in what country are you located? When deleting a schedule, did you choose creating a new one or clear schedule?

Please take a look at this guide on how to disable smart features:

Home/Away Assist

  1. Go to the thermostat Quick View menu.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Select Home/Away Assist then turn it off.

Auto Schedule

  1. Go to the thermostat Quick View menu.
  2. Look for Nest Sense.
  3. Select Auto Schedule then turn it  off.

After disabling these features, monitor if the issue persists.

Best,

Jenelyn

Thanks, I figured it out and was able to turn it off. Also I now have a smart vent program that is working to control the vents in parts of the house. The logs for that however are now in the Google Home app and it was good to be able to see those.

Hi there ajayS,

Thanks for the update. I'm glad to hear that it seems the issue is already resolved. Please feel free to let us know if you have any questions or concerns by creating a new thread, as we'll be willing to assist you from there.

Cheers,

Jenelyn

I have disabled these and they are showing as "off" on the thermostat and the app. Only problem is my temp is constantly changing and I'm not changing it, so the smart features are still running in the background.

Hello Andrewsgame12,

We understand how important it is for your thermostat to operate according to your preferences, and I'm dropping by to assist you in resolving this matter. To address this, let's try a few troubleshooting steps:

  1. Double-check that Auto Schedule and Home/Away Assist are indeed turned off both on your thermostat and in the Nest app.
    1. Ensure that there are no conflicting schedules or settings that might be influencing the thermostat's behavior. Clearing all your Temperature Schedule would help.
  2. Try restarting the thermostat, waiting for a minute, and then turning it back on.
  3. Check the Routines in the Google Home app. Remove all the thermostat actions available that trigger it to adjust the temperature randomly.
  4. If the problem persists, you might want to consider resetting the learning algorithms of your thermostat. This can be done through the settings on the thermostat. Keep in mind that this will erase any learned patterns, and the thermostat will start fresh.

Thanks for the help here, Jenelyn.

Warm regards,
Mark
