Carrier 8 wire thermostat compatibility with Nest thermostat

CayteD

I have a Carrier 8 wire thermostat I'm trying to wire to a Nest Thermostat which has 6 pins.  The compatability guide said it was compatible even though the wire count is differnt.  I've read several posts saying don't connect the brown and black wires.  Can you advise?

Thanks Cayte

Hi CayteD,

Thanks for reaching out in the Google Nest Community forum. I'd like to take a closer look at it. To confirm, in what country are you located? Could you please take a photo of the wires connected to your thermostat and to your system's control board? Ensure that the labels of the wire are visible.

Best,

Jenelyn

Hi there,

Thanks for the photo. Fortunately, your thermostat wires are compatible with our Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd generation and should be wired to the Nest Learning Thermostat base as shown:

The Nest Thermostat does not need S1 and S2 wires. Wires labeled S or S1 can be indicator lights or sensor wires. The Nest Thermostat uses its LCD display instead of an indicator light and gets sensor information, like outdoor weather conditions, over Wi-Fi. Also, here's a guide for the installation and setup of a Nest Learning Thermostat.

Let us know if that helps.

Regards,

Zoe
