Changing from Honeywell to Nest - Nest only blows hot

Photo shows wiring as it currently is on the Honeywell Touch display t-stat. Heat and cool work perfectly.

I have W, C, G, R, Y wires only

I have a heat pump on the roof

Yes, I know the ac guys wired it cockeyed on the roof but I did verify with a tech while on the roof, the white wire truly is the C and the blue wire truly is the W

I set the app up in my Honeywell as a heat pump. Like I say, works just fine, has worked fine ever since I installed it.

I go to set up a Nest to get a little bit of a discount from my power company, connected W, C, G, R, Y. I left OB empty.

The Honeywell has W/OB on the same input. The Nest separates these.

I go through set up and it only blows hot air when cool is supposed to be ON. There are no real detailed  instructions in the Google Home app. I recall seeing a question as to whether my heat was forced air. On my current honeywell t-stat, It looks like between those two questions, forced air or heat pump, it is set to heat pump.

I assume the internal honeywell on screen t-stat set up determines how the W/OB input is used for the W wire.

I guess three questions:

1. Do I use W or OB input on the nest with my W wire

2. What options do I choose during the google Home setup. It doesn't seem to ask me too many questions, unlike the honeywell total comfort app

3. Seems like the wiring is straightforward

I live in AZ, this is your standard run of the mill heat pump w/ no extra cooling or heating stages.

dbbarney,

Check YouTube ONE HOUR SMART HOME. W1 and W2 are for heat and O/B is for heat pump. I would try using O/B instead of W1.

Hey folks,

Thanks for your suggestion, 1007gary.

dbbarney, if you're sure that you have a heat pump, the W/OB wire on your Honeywell thermostat should go to the OB terminal of your Nest one. Give that a try and let us know how it goes.

Hey dbbarney,

How's it going with your thermostat? Have you had the chance to try the suggestion above?
