 can I connect a nest thermostat?  Need help.

Does your system have a modulating gas valve? The orange wire connected to the V terminal is what controls the valve and none of the Nest are compatible with it. You can look in the furnace/air handler and see if the orange wire is connected to a V terminal. If it isn't then you can use a Nest Thermostat.
