Works fine for heat but when trying to turn on AC, AC compressor starts then immediately turns off. Thermostat reports "delay." This is the first time we have tried to cool as Nest installed during the winter. Hearting works perfectly.

Post a picture of the original thermostat's wiring if you have it.
If you don't have it, post a picture of the terminal block on the control board in the furnace/air handler.

Wiring should be straightforward.
Have you tried it like this?
Yellow - Y to Y
Brown - G to G
Blue - C to C
Red - R to R
White - W to W
If you have it wired like that and it still doesn't work, try resetting it to factory default and set it up again.

I disconnected the common wire, and the air works perfect.

I did. Heat worked fine, but not the air. I unhooked the c wire, and the heat and air work fine. I don’t have the learning stat,just the plain one

Hi folks,
@Patrick_Caezza, thanks for the help!
@Gunkmosni, I'm glad to hear that you were able to get the cooling working after removing the C wire. Please observe it for now and let us know if you notice any issue on your Nest Thermostat.
Thanks,
Edward
