Cool or room temperature air comes on when heating

My nest worked great for air conditioning but sporadically for heating. I was told the cheaper nest wasn't good so I bought the $200 learning Nest It's still doing the same thing.  It was on a schedule and went on at noon and was warm air, but when I tried to increase the temp it became cooler.  When I woke up this morning and told Alexa to turn on the heat and to 72 degrees it immediately went on with cool air coming out

Hi Jbmagic,

Uh-oh! I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your Nest Thermostat providing cool air instead of heat. Are you located in North America or Europe? What type of Nest Thermostat do you have? And could you send us a photo of your previous thermostat wiring configuration and a photo of how you connected the thermostat wires to the Nest Thermostat base? Also, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can take:

  1. Double-check your Nest Thermostat's wiring connections for proper seating and secure connections, following HVAC system specifications and connecting the wires to the correct terminals.
  2. To ensure proper heating, ensure your Nest Thermostat is set to "Heat" mode, either in the Nest app or on the thermostat itself, and not "Cool" or any other mode.
  3. To ensure proper heating, check the temperature settings on your Nest Thermostat, ensuring they are set to the desired temperature, such as 72 degrees Fahrenheit.
  4. To ensure proper heating system functioning, disconnect the Nest Thermostat and manually activate the heating system at the source, determining if the issue is with the thermostat or the HVAC system itself.
  5. To ensure optimal performance, it's crucial to update your Nest Thermostat to the latest firmware version, which can address known issues and improve performance. Check for updates via the Nest app or the Nest Thermostat itself.
  6. If the issue persists, perform a factory reset on your Nest Thermostat and reconfigure it from scratch to resolve any software glitches or configuration issues causing the problem.

Let us know if that helps.

Best,

Zoe
