Cool to Dry - Internal error encountered

nestyuser

I'm trying to enable the "Cool to Dry" setting on my Nest Thermostat using the Google Home app on my iPhone. Whenever I tap the slider to enable it I get an error that says "Internal error encountered." It then disables the setting. How do I get this setting enabled?

Hi @nestyuser,

Thanks for posting here in the community! I'm sorry to hear the Cool to Dry feature isn't staying on. I'd be happy to help!

To gather more information, I'd like to ask a couple of questions:

  • What model is your Nest thermostat?
  • Would you mind sharing a photo of the wiring installation?
  • Has the Cool to Dry feature worked before?
  • Does your A/C have a dehumidification mode?

For now, I suggest a restart. Sometimes a simple restart can fix some glitches. You can also check for updates on your Nest thermostat by going to Thermostat Settings > Software or Version > Update. In addition, here's a helpful article to learn more about Cool to Dry.

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Sure...

  • What model is your Nest thermostat?
    • Nest Thermostat - HW Version 1.4, SW Version 1.3-10
  • Would you mind sharing a photo of the wiring installation?
    • No, as this is surely a software/app issue
  • Has the Cool to Dry feature worked before?
    • Not that I remember. I was trying to enable it in the app
  • Does your A/C have a dehumidification mode?
    • Not sure, as we recently purchased this home and it's the existing A/C

I've also restarted and it didn't help.

I can't find "Thermostat Settings > Software or Version > Update" in the Google Home app. Are you sure that's how to access the "update" function?

I checked the article you linked and it said to to get "Settings > Nest Sense", but I don't have that in the settings on my thermostat.

Hi @nestyuser,

Thanks for following up! I'm sorry to hear the previous steps didn't help as expected.

I appreciate the efforts made; there can be some variation depending on the Nest thermostat model and app you're using. The Cool to Dry feature is only available on Nest Learning Thermostats and Nest Thermostat E.

I checked your thermostat information, and it seems your model might not be compatible with Cool to Dry. To confirm, would you mind sharing a photo of your Nest thermostat?

Thanks for your patience!

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Hi @nestyuser,

Thanks for the photo! It helps me determine if your Nest thermostat is compatible with the Cool to Dry feature.

Unfortunately, it looks like your Nest thermostat isn't compatible with Cool to Dry at this time. I'd love to hear your feedback on this feature, as it's something many users are interested in and could help us improve our products in the future.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Best regards,

Jenniffer
