I don’t understand why the current temp doesn’t always show on the display sometimes only a line and why it’s not an option to switch the current temp to the big number in the middle and have the target temp the small one on the side because when I’m checking the thermostat I want to know what the temp is more then what it’s set too

Hello BM_5,
Thanks for posting in the Community. I’d be happy to help you with the Nest Learning Thermostat. Let’s check it out.
While there isn’t a way to show the current room temperature instead of the target temperature on the thermostat’s temperature screen, the 3rd generation Nest Learning Thermostat can automatically wake up and switch to the Farsight screen when there's activity within 20 feet. The Farsight screen shows you useful information in a large format that makes it easy to read even from the other side of the room.
You can choose what Farsight shows you or turn it off in your Nest thermostat's settings.
Note: No matter which Farsight setting you choose, your thermostat will always go to sleep to conserve power and show you important messages such as smoke and carbon monoxide alerts from your Nest Protect, Furnace Heads-Up, or any other error or alert that requires your attention.
By default, on the 3rd gen Nest Learning Thermostat, Farsight is turned on and set to show you the target temperature. You can turn Farsight off or change what it shows you on your thermostat's screen or in the Home app.

In the Home app
You can check out this guide to learn more about what you'll see on a Nest thermostat.
I hope that helps.
Best,
Lance

Hello Lance - Thanks for your help although I am not enitrely sure I understand your response. The issue, I believe, is that no matter if you choose "current temp" or "target temp" from the Farsight menu, when the thermostat wakes up it will always show the target temp with the current temp indicated in tiny font on the outside ring of the screen. Any assistance in getting the therm to wake up and display the current room temp?

Hey everyone,
@Charles1, thanks for joining the discussion. Aside from the Farsight screen, there is currently no way to show the current temperature in the middle of the temperature screen instead of showing the target temperature.
While this feature isn’t available, the best way to get your thoughts, feedback, or feature requests to the people who can make changes is to share feedback about Google Nest.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
@BM_5, have you had any chance to see the response above? Feel free to reach out if you still need any help.
Regards,
Lance

Yeah I saw it thanks and I knew about the farsight screen. It’s when it wakes up that I’d rather see current temp then targeted temp because to me that’s more important and half the time there’s no current temp number at all just a line for me to guess what it is

Hello
Can I set the quick view screen as my farsight? I like all the info when I walk by.

Hi folks,
@BM_5, chiming in—thermostats have different designs and functionalities based on the manufacturer and model. Some thermostats may have prominent display of the current temperature while others would be more concerned with the target temperature. It is typically the decision of the manufacturer to how this information should be displayed based on the design preferences or user responses. The reason for showing the target temperature more prominently is to have fast visual reference to set the desired temperature. This may be useful for those users who are constantly changing the thermostat to set it at their personal preferred temperature.
@Diverkathy,, we're glad to hear you're interested with thermostat's quick view menu viewing when you walk pass by your thermostat! Currently, only the temperature screen of the thermostat will show up when farsight is enabled. So, please let our product team know about it by sending feedback.
I appreciate your help, Lance.
Thanks,
Zoe
