Dead Termostat E

I have just received my Google Nest Termostat E which came as a gift for joining SSE on one of their tariffs. I have watched the instillation video online e and gone to install, however, when I plug the USB cable from the Termostat E into the supplied plug and switch it on absolutely nothing happens, no lights, no sound, no screen showing. Absolutely nothing. Please advise
