Disable Nest thermostat presence sensing permanently ???

Jevanson

Something is broken with presence sensing for my Nest thermostat. I have it turned off in my app. Both phone locations and home devices are toggled off. I want my work thermostat to work by schedule only. But it keeps putting itself in auto eco mode "because no one is home" and not activating by the schedule. So I come into work in the morning and its 83 degrees in my building which takes more energy to cool once the Florida sun is up and its boiling outside. How do I get this to permanently stay off? If i can't I'm going to have to return it and switch brands.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I understand your frustration with your Nest thermostat not working as expected. It's switching to Eco Mode and ignoring your schedule, even after you've already turned off presence sensing. No need to worry; I'm happy to help.

To help me troubleshoot this issue more effectively, could you please answer the following questions?

  • What type of Nest thermostat do you have?

  • What type of HVAC system do you have?

  • Are there multiple devices signed into the same account?

  • Did you disable the location in your phone's settings?

  • Do you share the home where you have the Nest thermostat with another family member?

I look forward to your response so we can find a solution for you soon.

Best regards,

Gabriela

This nest is at my commercial business, it’s the 2020 version, not the learning thermostat. We have a normal hvac system, maybe 3 years old. The only device using the account is my phone, no one else has access and yes I have disabled my phones location as well as device presence sensing as I mentioned in the original post.

Hi @Jevanson,

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate the time you took to respond to my post and the information you provided. I'm happy to continue assisting you with this.

To help isolate the issue, please try the following steps:

  1. Check your Presence Sensing settings:
    • Open the Google Home app.
    • Tap Settings (gear icon).
    • Go to the Home features section, then tap Presence sensing.
    • Turn on, then immediately turn off, the "Allow this home to use phone locations" setting.
    • Close and reopen the app, then check for any changes to your Home & Away status.
  2. Clear the app cache and reinstall:
    • Android:
      • Go to your device's Settings > Apps.
      • Find and tap on the Google Home app.
      • Tap Storage, then Clear cache.
    • iPhone:
      • Go to your device's Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
      • Find and tap on the Google Home app.
      • Select Offload App (this will clear the cache and data but keep your documents).

After clearing the cache, please delete and then reinstall the app. Check if the Presence Sensing setting remains off afterward.

Please keep me posted if you have any questions or if these steps resolve the issue.

Regards,

Gabriela
