Discontinuation of Nest Gen 1&2

Whilst I understand the discontinuation of support for Gen 1 and 2 thermostats (although I’m disappointed) I struggle to understand why users are being pointed towards the Tado system rather than a Gen 3 thermostat. Also, why would Gen 4 not be available in Europe?. It’s a large market, surely it’s worth Google’s time and effort to make this product compatible with European heating systems.

This is the best excuse to leave the Nest! Ecobee here I come!

I agree

why not just replace with a 3rd generation rather than a more expensive 4th generation?

Exactly my thought.   This is really frustrating

It’s not just the cost of buying another remote capable thermostat, it is the electrician fees for swapping out the associated Nest Link device. It’s an outrage. I’m fuming at this announcement.

how difficult is it to replace a 2nd with a3rd gen in the UK. mine sits in a little holder in the living room, the boiler with the heatlink thing is in a cupboard in the hall. would i simply have to rewire the cradle with the new backboard or is it a gas fitter job ?

I think the whole nest thing (including the associated old heat link receiver boiler interface) will have to be removed and sent to landfill!! Any replacement device will have to be installed (theoretically by a qualified electrician!). This is criminal! Peter.

It’s seems pretty clear that Google are winding down the whole nest thing, at least in Eu and UK anyway……
