Divice connection through my phone

pgreenfeld

I spent a number of hours last night installing a Google thermostat. I couldn't get the app on my phone using my university Google e-mail address to connect. I finally used my wife's gmail and installed the app on her phone and it worked. Can only one phone per household be connected to a device? I even set up a non-university connected gmail account but still couldn't get it t link to my phone.

Actually, if you want multiple people to have access to one device or home, you'll have to download Google Home and invite that person to your home so that both of you can access the thermostat. You'll have to use personal gmail. G-suite and business emails don't work, I believe.

Hello folks,

I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Thanks for helping here, @eveluna.

@pgreenfeld, I'm sorry to hear that you had an issue adding your Nest Thermostat using your email. But I'm glad you've successfully set it up using your wife's email account.

Using non-Gmail or Workspace accounts is not compatible with Google Nest devices due to its advanced security settings, which will require approval of access from the administrator who manages your university email account. If you have a Gmail account, you can leave your wife's email account as the primary email and add your personal email as a home member, so you can share access to your thermostat.

Please take a look at this article and let us know if you need more help.

Regards,

Mark
