Do I need to have my app on "Home" for temperature change to work consistently?

I thought I was imagining it at first but have found occasionally when I turn the heat up from my office I get home and it's still at the same setting from the morning.  Do I need to wait a certain amount of time on the app for it to "catch" up or do I need to be on "Home" for this app feature?

Hi PAntonacci,

The behavior you described, where the temperature setting on your Nest Thermostat does not update immediately after adjusting it through the app, could be related to a few factors. Here are a few things to consider:

  1. There can be a slight delay in syncing between the app and the thermostat. After making a temperature adjustment in the app, it may take a few moments for the change to be reflected on the thermostat itself. Typically, this delay should be minimal, but it can vary depending on factors such as the strength of your Wi-Fi connection.
  2. If there are connectivity issues between your thermostat and the app, it may cause delays or failures in updating the temperature setting. Ensure that your thermostat is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network and that your mobile device has a strong internet connection. You can also try restarting both the thermostat and your mobile device to resolve any temporary communication issues.
  3. The Home/Away Assist feature in the Nest Thermostat relies on detecting your presence using various methods, such as your phone's location. If the Home/Away Assist feature is enabled and set to use your phone's location, it's possible that the thermostat is not detecting your presence accurately, and therefore, the temperature setting may not update as expected. Ensure that your phone's location services are enabled and that the Nest app has the necessary permissions to access your location.
  4. Nest Thermostats have a learning period during which they learn your temperature preferences and schedule. During this period, the thermostat may take some time to adjust to your desired settings. However, once the learning period is over, the thermostat should respond more quickly to your temperature adjustments.
  5. Occasionally, firmware updates may be released for Nest Thermostats. These updates can introduce new features, improvements, or bug fixes. It's a good practice to ensure that both the Nest app and your thermostat's firmware are up to date to take advantage of any performance enhancements and bug fixes.

Let us know if that helps.

Best,

Zoe
