Do you need a gmail account to make use of nest thermostat?

Myself, children have a gmail account but my wife doesnt. Do you need a gmail account so to take control of nest thermostat as well as the geolocation feature

All, Google Smart Tech is under Google Home where all google products are grouped up. In which you can sign up for, Google Home using any email.
