Does a nest with extra temperature sensors do this?

Feature request?

In a nest system with at least one remote temperature sensor, does it use a pre fan-only mode?

Example. remote is in Master bedroom. Master bedrooms are often several degrees warmer/cooler than the rest of the house. If the unit simply treats the bedroom sensor like a normal thermostat it will be more likely to short -cycle the compressor. Also, it will create a more jarring experience for the user, encourage late night tweaking of the set point, further reducing efficiency.

Instead a pre fan-only would cause a more gradual move to the setpoint. Reducing the house gradient first and then turning on the compressor/furnace and running it for a longer time since it working on the entire house as a system. Then turn off, maybe do a bit of air-wave and wait for the house system to get out of balance again.

An intelligent remote sensor use would check for a house gradient (the more sensor the better) and turn on the fan-only if the gradient is sufficient. then once the gradient reduces (a minute or two?), turn on the compressor or furnace and work with the entire house as a system.

This is why people get frustrated and lose sleep. they set the thermostat to a comfortable temperature and then it seems to take too long to come on and then too hot/cold when it does run. blasting us. so all night, covers on, covers off. In some cases, tweaking the thermostat. User input is usually error. Use the temperature sensor and software intelligence to provide a more comfortable temperature regulation. less jarring. also saves energy and prolongs hardware life.

I assume Nest already does this?

Hi pgransee,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts here in the community.

The Google Nest thermostat has a feature called Airwave. can help lower air conditioning costs by automatically shutting off your compressor at the right time. Airwave will only work on Google Nest thermostats that control central air conditioning.

And to provide users with a much better sleep and the convenience of using Google Nest thermostat, you could use the temperature hold feature and set a temperature that you wish your thermostat to hold for a certain period of time.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Ryan
