Does the Nest Learning Thermostat have to be fully charge to pull power

I purchased the Version3 Learning thermostat 2 years ago and it came with a dead battery.  I left it in the box for a year because of frustration.  I now need to use it but the battery needed to be charges.  Plugged it in to computer and charged it but its still not fully charged.   The thermostat see my W1/RH wires but it says there is no power to RH.
Does the battery need to be fully charged to pull power from RH?  Keep in mind I also have a V2 thermostat and tested and it works so its no the wires.

Keep in mind I also have a V2 and it works with no issues.  So the wires are not the problem.

Hello raygorbea,

It sounds like you've had quite a lot of experience with your Nest Learning Thermostat. I'm sorry to hear about the dead battery issue and the subsequent challenges you've faced in getting it up and running.

To address your question about whether the battery needs to be fully charged to pull power from RH, typically, thermostats like the Nest Learning Thermostat should be able to function even if the battery is not fully charged, as they usually draw power from the HVAC system itself. However, if the battery is completely dead, it might not be able to initiate the system properly.

Given that you've charged the thermostat but are still experiencing issues with power to RH, it's possible that there could be a deeper issue with the thermostat itself. In this situation, I would suggest charging it directly from a power outlet using a micro USB charger for an hour. You should see at least an LED blinking on its display and be able to turn it on.

Please give it a try and let me know how it goes.

Best regards,
Mark
