I bought this home with the Nest thermostat already in it. The temps around here have been pretty low lately (in the 20s) so I get my heat will run more. But why won't the thermostat at least hold the temp I set it to? I have it set on 70 which is about 2 degrees lower than I want it to save some energy. My power bill has doubled and I'm guessing because my Aux heat runs a lot. When I check the thermostat it shows 67 or 68 degrees with the heat running and Aux heat on. How does it drop so low if I have it set to 70? Why won't it just stay at or at least close to 70? My old house had a Honeywell thermostat and I never had this problem. It would run it's schedule and stay close to the temp I set and only cut on if it dropped a bit then once it heated up would cut off. This 'smart' thermostat never seems to do this. I feel like it runs constantly. I feel like I have a setting wrong or something.

I have the same issue. My temperature always says 64, but I set my temperature to 68 to 70°.

I had the same issue recently and an hvac guy come in and essentially, he discovered that the C Wire was not connected to the nest thermostat. He said the C wire is optional but it helps recharge the thermostat, when it's really cold the unit runs more thus requiring more power but since my C wire wasn't connected, it didn't charge my nest enough to be able send the signal to unit. So the nest thermostat was running for a little bit, but unable to continue sending the signal. After he connected the C wire, my issue got resolved!

Hello everyone,
I'm dropping by to see how I can help.
@HandsomeGuy29, thanks for posting and for keeping us in the loop on what you've done to have your concern rectified—give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done!
@sarahdaniell369, I totally understand how that can be frustrating, especially when it's affecting your energy bills. One thing to consider is that the Nest Thermostat learns your habits and adjusts accordingly, so it might be trying to optimize for your comfort and energy savings based on your usage patterns. However, it seems like there might be some settings adjustments or troubleshooting needed to ensure it's working as intended.
If you're still having issues after checking these things, you might consider checking for a power-related issue that affects the temperature.
Best regards,
Mark
