Hello All,
I've had the Nest Thermostat installed for two weeks and the Early On feature is not reaching the set temperature by the set time. I have a two stage heat, forced air furnace and have set the max duration for 2 hours which should be plenty of time given that my previous Honeywell thermostat could reach temperature in under 2 hours. The temperature is set to be at 70F by 7am. At night, it is set at 64F. At 7am, it is still 66F in the house and the thermostat is still only calling for the first stage of heating; it's not calling for the 2nd stage of heating even though it significantly missed its setpoint. Any advice?
Thanks, Tim

Hey there,
Sorry to hear about the trouble. I wanted to follow up and see if I could be of any help. I found an article with more details about the early-on feature. Please let me know if you are still having any trouble from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.
Best regards,
Jake

Hi Jake,
yes, I’m still having problems and I’ve read that article previously. Please let me know if there’s anything else I could try. BTW, how many days does it take the nest thermostat to “learn” the characteristics of my house?
thanks, Tim

I have a similar problem: i have Early On and True Radiant turned on, and 'max duration' set to 5 hours (the maximum), however after 4 weeks (which i would say should give enough learning) the heating only STARTS at the exact moment of my schedule, so NOT earlier (and NOT smart) at all.

Hello folks,
I'm sorry for the late response. I know it has been a while, but I wanted to ensure that everything was covered here.
Make sure to disable the Home and Away Assist and Auto-Learning schedules as they might affect the early-on temperature schedule. Disabling them would help them learn and follow only the said settings. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.
Thanks for assisting, Jake.
Regards,
Mark

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately they are already turned off and it still does not work. Any other ideas or checks?

Same as Tieske for me. Both are already turned off. I also just deleted the presence history in case that had something to do with it.

oh, and, I have the Nest Thermostat, not the Nest Learning Thermostat, so no learning mode to turn off for me.

Hello there,
Thanks for letting me know the steps you've taken. I'd love to know more about this.
Could you please share with us photos of your thermostat's wiring? Also, please check its power readouts on the thermostat's "Technical Info" settings for the Nest Learning Thermostat or Nest Thermostat and "Equipment" settings for the Nest Thermostat 2020 model.
I'll look forward to your response.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi there,
Thanks for sharing the photos, Tim_McCormick. Additional questions: was there any instance where your thermostat didn't reach the target temperature without following the Early-On settings? Also, are you seeing any temperature timers on the temperature screen on how long it will take before it reaches the set temperature?
Regards,
Mark

Hello Tim_McCormick,
I'm sorry for the confusion. I know it has been a while, but I wanted to ensure that everything is covered here. How's your thermostat now? Is it still not reaching your scheduled temperature?
Thanks,
Mark

Still not reaching the set temperature at the scheduled time. It eventually does though.

Hi there,
I see. One more thing — could you please gather your thermostat's power readouts? You can get this information from your actual thermostat's "Equipment" settings by selecting Wiring Info. This will help me determine if this was related to a power issue.
Thanks,
Mark
