Eco

I had two nest thermostats 2nd generation.   I use it in a condo only for the eco sensing mode as maids and renters leave it Ridiculously low cooling temp and leave even on check out.  So the first worked well for year and with thirty minutes people leave goes to eco and back when they return.  Even when. I start eco mode remotely the next renter comes it started.   I replaced it with second unit cause first stopped working.  It works fine. But rarely goes to eco mode.  It appears people are there 24 hours.   My family went and told me they left. One hour later still no eco mode.  So I switched remotely to away.  What is wrong with this thing and why only goes eco on occasionally not each time people leave.  How can it be made to go eco sooner like 30 minutes of people leaving.

I’m having similar issues. I’m so sick and tired of all these problems with the Next app. We are in the hottest weather we’ve had and now my home away assist is not using my phone location to change to Eco mode when I’m gone to save AC costs. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app, changed my phone location settings to ensure that my phone location is used for home/away assist (even though the settings were correct in the first place) and still every morning when I get to work, 20 miles away mind you, I have to manually switch to Away. What is wrong with this app all of a sudden??!! This is ridiculous!! I never had this problem before!! 😡

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Nest Thermostat. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • What devices are selected under "What decides if you're home".
  • Do you have other Nest devices aside from the thermostat?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward

  • I’ve always used my iPhone as the selected device to decide whether I was home. Location services have always been enabled. However, now when I’m home and asleep the Nest thermostat goes into Eco mode. This never happened before.

  • I have no other Nest devices.
  • So, I had to turn Home/Away off as it doesn’t work. I have to constantly now turn my Nest thermostat to Eco mode manually when I’m away!
  • I did all the Help Troubleshooting steps which were not helpful at all and do not resolve this issue.

Hi Ravenwillows,

Thanks for the response. Did your Nest Thermostat go to Eco while your Home / Away Assist was disabled? To isolate the issue, please check the Energy History on the Nest app to see the reason why it changed the mode.

You could click on this link to learn more about reading your Energy History.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi Ravenwillows,

Thanks for the response and I'm sorry for the confusion. To isolate the issue, could you try disabling the Nest Thermostat under "What decides if you're home"? Let's observe it for at least 24-48 hours and let us know if there are any changes.

Thanks,

Edward

I am still manually switching from Eco to Cool setting because Home / Away Assist isn’t working properly. I explained to you all the steps I took to troubleshoot but you replied asking me to do the same things again that I just told you I did. You weren’t helpful unfortunately. I’ll look for a different brand thermostat as a replacement. Thank you.

Hello EdwardT,

As I stated in my previous response, I manually set my Nest to Eco because I turned Home/Away Assist off since it’s not working properly. Since Home/Away Assist is disabled, the Nest thermostat will not go to Eco mode automatically.

I have checked the energy history as I am well aware of how the settings work, and the energy settings show that I changed the mode to Eco.
