Editing presets

I am trying to change the presets, because they are just dumb.

I've gone down the rabbit hole of the internet, and the only thing I can see are the following steps...

To edit presets on a Nest thermostat, you can do the following:
  1. Open the Google Home app
  2. Select Favorites or Devices
  3. Select your thermostat
  4. Select Settings
  5. Select Temperature preferences
  6. Choose Temperature presets
  7. Select the preset you want to edit
  8. Tap + or – to change the temperature
  9. Select Done

Except, nowhere on the app, does it actually allow you to 'edit' or 'save' a change I've made to the setting....when selecting the presets the only option is to 'select' not edit, and once in the preset I can change the temp, but see no way to save the new temp as the preset.

hoping someone out there can tell me what I'm missing

Hi @LeoT1,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand your frustration; editing Nest thermostat presets can be a bit different than expected. Let's see if we can get those presets adjusted for you.

While the online instructions mention "edit," you're right, there isn't a specific "save" button involved. Here's the key: Once you change the temperature for a preset using the "+" and "-" buttons, those changes should automatically be applied to that preset.

Let's try it together.

  1. Open the Nest app and navigate to your Nest thermostat settings (or home settings, depending on your app version).
  2. Go to "Temperature preferences" and then "Temperature presets."
  3. Select the preset you want to modify.
  4. Use the "+" and "-" buttons to adjust the temperature to your desired setting.

Once you've made the temperature adjustment, it should be applied to that specific preset.

If you're still having trouble, let me know, and we can explore some additional troubleshooting steps together.

Here's an additional tip: You can also create custom presets with your preferred temperatures if the existing ones don't meet your needs.

Here's how to create a custom preset:

  1. Follow steps 1 and 2 above (navigate to "Temperature preferences" and "Temperature presets").
  2. Tap "Add" (or "Create Custom," depending on your app version).
  3. You will be able to create your own custom preset with your desired temperature.

If you're still having trouble, let me know, and we can explore some additional troubleshooting steps together.

Hello @LeoT1

Thank you for posting in the community!

That's definitely not the expected behavior! It sounds like your Nest thermostat might be functioning a little differently than the online instructions suggest. I appreciate your effort in trying to troubleshoot the thermostat; however, if none of these steps resolve the issue, consider a factory reset of your thermostat as a last resort. Let me know if you know how to do it or if you can follow the steps on this factory reset link. Remember, this will erase all your settings, and you'll need to set up your thermostat again, including choosing presets during the setup process. Make sure you are using the Google Home app to control your Nest thermostat.

Please let me know if you were able to fix it. Thank you.

Regards,

Jorge

Thank you for the response !!   Sadly, when I g get through step 4 above ( change the preset ) the slide for temp automatically slides back to the starting point.  Also going between the settings they remain unchanged.

Trying the 'add' process, there is no option to 'add' in the presets. Just the three presets and 'cancel'
