Emails saying 'your home address will be updated'

TwickenhamUser
Community Member

I received two email last night from a Nest no reply account saying 'Your address in the Nest app will be updated based on your address in the Google Home app' and warning that things might stop working. However, I have changed nothing since the Nest product was installed over a year ago. Why would I now be getting  these emails ?

Maybe, the address you have from Nest App and Google Home are different. Have you checked it?
You might wanna check this link for Google Home: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7551002?hl=en
Then, for Nest App, just select the gear icon, then look for home information, i guess.

We received the same email and I just posted about it (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Apps-Account/Why-the-quot-Home-address-update-quot-email-from...).  We have also not changed anything, and the home addresses in the two apps have ALWAYS been the same.

It sounds like a Phishing email that Google didn't send out.

Just ignore it.

The messages came from # and contained a hyperlink labelled 'Learn More'. The underlying links differed in the two emails as follows, perhaps supporting your Phishing suspicion :-

@Patrick_Caezza

I do NOT think this was a phishing email. If it were, then Google Nest's systems have been hacked, because the email listed the name of our Google Nest "home/structure".

Furthermore, the "Learn more" link was NOT a link to some malware site, but rather a link to Google Nest's own "Change Google home address" Help topic.

Hello folks,

I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Thanks for the input, @faerie and @MplsCustomer

@TwickenhamUser, I'm sorry for the trouble this may have caused you. I understand the email you received can be confusing, but I'd be happy to take a look at this for you.

Please try checking for other available home structures on both the Nest app and Google Home app that could cause an incorrect address alert. If there are no other structures, you might have home members added to your thermostat. Try checking their app and making sure that the address is accurate.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Mark

@Markjosephp

We have only one Google Nest "home/structure". We have only 2 household members. The address has always been the same in both the Google Nest app and the Google Home app. (The Google Nest app only lists an address for the Owner, while the Google Home app lists an address for all household members.) We have no Nest thermostats and never have.

Last night we received a "Home address update" email from "Nest", saying "Your home address will be updated" and "Your address in the Nest app will be updated based on your address in the Google Home app" and "You received this email because there will be updates to your homes."

Since our home address has not changed in decades, and since our our home address in the Google Nest app has ALWAYS been the same as our home address in the Google Home app, and since we have only one Google Nest "home/structure", why did Google Nest send this email?

Did anyone else receive such an email?

Me too

Me too. In fact I received an identical email twice within the space of half an hour.

Hello everyone,

I've duplicated this thread in the main one here. You’ll receive all updates on this issue on the main thread, and we recommend updating and checking this thread when needed.

Hello MplsCustomer,

Gotcha! I'm sorry for any confusion this may have caused. The home and work locations are synced with the Google Maps settings on your mobile devices, which might be the reason for the email notification. Let's sort this out.

Please give these steps a whirl:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. At the top right, tap your account.
  3. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your Google Nest devices. To switch accounts, tap another account or add another account.
  4. Tap Assistant settings and then Your Places.
  5. To edit a home or work address, tap the current address > enter a new address, and then click OK.
    1. To remove a home or work address, tap Remove next to the address.

Please let me know if that helps.

Best regards,

Mark

@Markjosephp

Rather than telling us what you think "might be the reason for the email notification", could you please just find out and tell us the exact reason?

Hi there,

I appreciate your thoughts about this. There are some cases that could cause an address discrepancy, especially if multiple Google Nest devices are linked, including the smart speakers and other Google hardware products that require an address location for home automation. The Google Home app's Home address setting is still different from the Home and Work location information in the Google Assistant settings.

Please try the steps I shared above and let us know if that helps or if the issue persists.

Thanks,

Mark

@Markjosephp

First, my Home address in Google Assistant is the same as the address in the Google Nest app and the Google Home app, and I have no work address listed.

Second, the email from Google Nest said: "Your address in the Nest app will be updated based on your address in the Google Home app." But they already are the same, and have always been the same.

So why did Google Nest send this email?

Hello folks,

I know this can be confusing, as there were no changes to the app addresses. I'm checking in to see if you are still getting the same email about the address update. Also, please let our product team know about it by sending feedback.

Regards,

Mark

No further emails and ignoring the missives doesn't seem to have caused an issue.

Hi TwickenhamUser,

Thanks for the update. In the meantime, please observe the Nest app and the Google Home app's behavior, and if the same issue persists, feel free to create a new post as this thread will be locked within 24 hours.

Best regards,

Mark

@Markjosephp

How about telling us why Google Nest sent the email before locking this thread?

I ignored the emails and left things as they were. Everything seems to be working as before so I remain puzzled as to why I was alerted, but guess I will never know 😊
