Emergency heat

I have a heat pump and electric emergency heat setup. I'm trying to schedule the alternate heat to kick in at a certain temperature. Is there any way to designate the emergency heat as the alternate or do I have to rewire the thermostat so that the emergency is actually an alternate heat?
